REM representative participated in a seminar in Tokyo

A representative of the technical services of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media participated in an international seminar titled The Role of Media in Democratic Countries, organised by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The seminar was conducted in Tokyo from 7 to 23 November 2024, and brought together, in addition to Serbia, eight other representatives from different parts of the world - Fiji, Kyrgyzstan, Malawi, Nepal, South Sudan, Ukraine, Guinea and Kosovo*. At the seminar in Japan, the Republic of Serbia was represented by Ivana Ivanov, project analyst from the REM Monitoring and Analysis Service.
During the seminar, the participants had the opportunity to expand their knowledge of media role and regulation and, in general, the media system of this country, which relies largely on self-regulation and a high level of professional ethics and accountability. The programme covered topics such as the role of the national public broadcaster (NHK), crisis reporting (first of all, earthquakes), media literacy, as well as media coverage of electoral processes.
