REM participated in the Ankara Summit

Representatives of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media participated in the two-day Empowered Media for a Conscious Society Summit, organised by the Radio and Television Supreme Council of Turkiye.

At the summit held in Ankara on 29 and 30 April, representatives of several Ankara universities, the Turkiye Youth Clubs Confederation, the Istanbul Family Foundation, as well as colleagues from regulatory bodies from Albania and Azerbaijan gathered.

The workshop held on the first day of the summit and the panel Impact of Negative Media Content on Society and Possible Solutions from the next day concluded that strong media are only possible with the cooperation of all parties, that is, institutions, media industry and families, i.e. end users.
Sasa Simovic, Assistant Director for Legal Affairs, specifically highlighted the issue of harmful content on the networks, which has an impact on society, primarily on minors, which is why he stressed the importance of media literacy from the earliest age, but also the need to involve the family, i.e. parents/caregivers in this effort.

Speaking about the possibilities of resolving the issues of such content, Simovic said that the international cooperation of regulators in this field and the exchange of experiences in terms of resolving the issue of harmful content are very important.

He also stressed the importance of traditional media and co-operation in the field of co-regulation, as a model for improving the already existing regulation in terms of protection of minors.

At the end of the summit, the President of the Radio and Television Supreme Council Ebubekir Sahin presented a certificate of appreciation to Assistant Director for Legal Affairs Sasa Simovic for his participation and contribution to the panel discussion.
